Details

Bone china adds herbivore bone ash to supply tricalcium phosphate. GB/T 13522-2024 requires no less than 36% in the fired body, and in practice bone-ash content generally exceeds 40% to secure high whiteness and translucency. Bone china uses an inverted twin firing — high-temperature bisque at 1240–1255°C then low-temperature glaze firing at 1100–1150°C — to overcome slumping at high heat. Huairen Jintai Ceramics appears among the drafting organisations for the standard.

FAQ

How do I confirm real bone china, not “new bone china”?

The only reliable method is testing tricalcium phosphate in the fired body. Write into the technical clause: complies with GB/T 13522-2024, tricalcium phosphate not less than 36%, third-party report supplied with shipment.

Can a gold rim be added?

Yes, but gold banding is on-glaze work: the finished piece is not microwave safe, and the EU sets separate lead and cadmium limits for decoration within 2 cm of the rim.
